Tri-annual Airport Emergency Preparedness Workshop Going on in PohnpeiPalikir, Pohnpei (FSM Information Services): October 6, 2009 - Beginning on Monday October 5, 2009, the Federal Aviation Agency, an agency in the U.S. Department of Transportation that is responsible for the safety of civilian aviation, in collaboration with the FSM Department of Transportation, Communication & Infrastructure and the Pohnpei Port Authority will be conducting an airport emergency preparedness workshop. The workshop will be held at the Pohnpei Port Authority's conference room and there will be tabletop exercises from October 5-7, followed by a full scale exercise on October 8th, and a debriefing on October 9th. Several FSM Departments are taking part in the exercise, namely the Department of Justice, Resources & Development, Finance & Administration, Health & Social Affairs, Foreign Affairs, the Office of Environment & Emergency Management, and the Public Information Office. The purpose of their attendance is for them to know exactly what their functions are during an airport emergency crisis and to help in the improvement of the FSM's airport emergency plan. A similar exercise was held three years ago, and the video that was created from the full scale exercise was used as a training video for other islands. For more information on this, please contact the Department of TC&I at 320-2865 or the Airport Improvement Program Manager at 320-1422. |
