The FSM and Czech Republic establish relationsPalikir, POHNPEI (FSM Information Services): October 7, 2004 - On October 6 2004, the Federated States of Micronesia and the Czech Republic established diplomatic relations through a signing ceremony in Palikir. Secretary Sebastian L. Anefal of the FSM Department of Foreign Affairs and Czech Republic Ambassador Stanislav Slavicky, based in the Philippines, signed the joint communiqué to establish diplomatic ties between the two nations. According to the communiqué, the relationship would promote mutual understanding and strengthen the friendship and cooperation between the two nations. With the diplomatic ties established yesterday, the FSM has now diplomatic ties with 52 UN member countries. The Czech Republic originated in January 1993, through the division of Czechoslovakia. It is located in central Europe bordered by Poland, Germany, Austria and Slovakia. The Czech Republic is a parliamentary democracy with President Vaclav Klaus as its Head of State and Prime Minister Stanislav Gross as the Head of Government. The Capital of the Czech Republic is Prague. |
