Chuuk dedicates MS Chief MailoWENO, Chuuk (FSM Information Service): October 21, 2004 - The State of Chuuk recently dedicated the MS Chief Milo as the newest addition to its fleet of Motor Ships servicing its widely scattered islands. A large crowd on the Weno pier witnessed the dedication of MS Chief Mailo on October 8, 2004. Special guest speakers for the ceremony included President Joseph J. Urusemal, Ambassador Yang Qiang of the PROC Embassy to the FSM and Mrs. Immaculada Beach Mailo Jessy, daughter of the late chief Petrus Mailo. Along with the special guest speakers, the leadership of Chuuk State, Governor Ansito Walter, Speaker Joe N. Suka of the Chuuk House of Representative and Mayor Florentino Jessy Robert, also addressed the special occasion with expressions of appreciation for the direly needed transportation vessel to service the islands of Chuuk. The MS Chief Mailo is a cargo/passenger ship donated to the FSM Government by the Government of the People's Republic of China. With the dedication and turn-over ceremony, operation and maintenance of MS Chief Mailo becomes the sole responsibility of the Chuuk State. |
