President Kabua State Visit PostponedPALIKIR, Pohnpei (FSM Information Service): October 30, 1997 - President Jacob Nena, on October 28, 1997, informed Congress Speaker Jack Fritz that word was receive from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade of the Republic of the Marshall Islands saying that President Imata Kabua will be unable to visit the FSM due to unexpected circumstances. RMI President Kabua who was in Honolulu sent his apology and expressed his deepest regrets and asked for our understanding, Nena's letter stated. A new date acceptable to both the FSM and RMI Governments is being worked out between the FSM Department of External Affairs and (the RMI) Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade, the letter stated adding, that the government of the Republic of the Marshall Islands has proposed that either the second or the third week of November will be convenient. The President concluded his letter with the words, "Your understanding and cooperation on the matter is appreciated." |
