Vice-President Alik L. Alik Attended the Ribbon Cutting Ceremony for the Newly-Extended Weather Service Station in PohnpeiPalikir, Pohnpei (FSM Information Services): November 1, 2012 - On October 26, 2012 at 10:00 a.m., Vice-President Alik L. Alik attended a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the newly extended-building of the Weather Service Station located in Kolonia, Pohnpei. The Vice-President thanked the government and people of the United States, through Ambassador Rosen, for the significant project and stated that like other US funded facilities and infrastructure projects, this new building stands as a testimony of the unique partnership enjoyed between the United States and the Federated States of Micronesia. Vice-President Alik also stated that the presence of the National Government at the occasion signifies the importance it attached to the project and that the new facility is equipped with the state-of-the-art technology. He pointed out that the completion of the project may be fulfilling to everyone involved especially the staff of Weather Service Station, the challenging task is how to maintain and upkeep the facility and equipment. Vice-President Alik expressed his appreciation for the job well done by all parties involved for the completion of the project. He thanked the representative of the United States National Oceanic and Atmospheric Agency (NOAA), Pacific Director Mr. Jeff Ladouce who provided the funding of the project. The funding was over 3.5 million dollars. Also delivering a statement on the occasion was US Ambassador Doria Rosen and remarks presented by Governor John Ehsa, Director Jeff Ladouce and Commander Micheal Thornton of NAVFAC Marianas who is in charge of implementing the project. After the ceremony, everyone was invited to tour the new building followed by refreshment provided by the management and staff of the Weather Service Station. In attendance from the National government were the Secretary of the Department of Justice Ms. April Skilling, Director of Office of Emergency and Environment Management Mr. Andrew Yatilman. |
