Federated States of Micronesia President Leo A. Falcam signs global accord at the United Nations Treaty EventNew York (FSM Permanent Mission to the UN): 12 November 2000 - President Leo A. Falcam today at the United Nations in New York signed the International Convention for the Suppression of the Financing of Terrorism on behalf of the Government of the Federated States of Micronesia. President Falcam undertook to sign the Convention to signify his government's unqualified commitment and support for the international effort against terrorism. The President joined other leaders and foreign ministers in signing the Convention as part of an event held on the fringes of the high-level debate of the 56th Session of the United Nations General Assembly. The event began on Saturday, 10 November and concludes on Friday, 16 November 2001. According to the UN Office of Legal Affairs, which is overseeing the event, the most popular treaty has been the International Convention for the Suppression of the Financing of Terrorism, which on Sunday, November 11, the second day of the special event received nine signatures and one ratification, bringing the total participation level to 86 signatories and 9 parties. The Convention enters into force the day after the deposit of the 22nd instrument of ratification. President Falcam, in New York to attend the annual General Debate at the United Nations General Assembly, will address the UN body on Tuesday morning, November 13. He will deliver his message to the world forum at 9 am as the first speaker of the morning session.
