President Mori visits Shenzhen, ChinaShenzhen, China (FSM Information Services): November 20, 2013 - President Emanuel Manny Mori, who was in Guangzhou, China to attend the Second China-Pacific Economic Cooperation and Development Forum, took advantage of his trip to visit the city of Shenzhen, China, from November 9 - 12. Shenzhen is a major city in the Guangdong Province which became China's first and most successful Special Economic Zones (SEZ). The city was created some thirty years ago, and was singled out as one of the five experimental grounds for practicing market capitalism. The city is now host to numerous headquarters for high-tech businesses and companies. During his visit, President Mori met with government officials including the Mayor of Shenzhen. He reiterated the close ties and friendship that China and FSM has. He noted the rapid development of Shenzhen for the past thirty years, and expressed his desire to collaborate more with the City in areas of economic cooperation. President Mori also took the time to visit some of the Chinese businesses that are doing business in FSM. These are businesses engaged in the sectors such as energy, telecommunications and fisheries. Members of President Mori's delegation included representatives of various private sector areas including hotel and tourism, communication, and Information Technology. The idea to visit the city of Shenzhen is meant to orient the FSM entrepreneurs to the business opportunities that China can offer. Joining President Mori on the trip were representatives from the private sector from each of the four states - Yap, Kosrae, Chuuk, and Pohnpei. |
