Pohnpei Airport gives room to FSM Postal Services within the airport terminalPalikir, Pohnpei (FSM Information Services): November 28, 2012 - FSM Information Services (November 28, 2012): The FSM Postal Service (FSMPS) added another station to its network of services locations yesterday with the dedication of its newest office within the Pohnpei International Airport. At around 10:30 the morning of November 27, the ceremony kicked off with a welcoming remarks from Mrs. Ginger Porder Mida, the FSM Post Master General who also spoke on the purposes of having a postal service substation at the airport. Mrs. Mida explained how the substation could be a convenient option for travelers who can not check in all their packages but must ensure they get home. Post stamps and other merchandise that people might need on-the-go are also brought closer, giving consumers convenient access which will in turn contribute to revenue generation in the long run. The ceremony was attended by Governor John Ehsa, Senator David W. Panuelo, FSM Congress, Chief of Staff Mr. Churchill Edward, representing FSM President Manny Mori, Mr. Michael Ordonez, Deputy Chief of Mission at the United States Embassy in Kolonia, Mayor Kasiano Shoniber of Kolonia Town Government, Mr. Nelperson Etse, General Manager of the Pohnpei Port Authority, Mr. Kasio E. Mida, Sr., Senior Executive at the Micronesian Registration Advisors, Inc., Mr. Jason Sigrah, United Airlines Supervisor in Pohnpei and a number of government staff and community members. A few officials spoke at the brief ceremony including Governor Ehsa who commended the FSMPS and encouraged the arrangement as an added convenient service to visitors and traveling populations. Deputy Chief of Mission Ordonez said he "applaude(s) the vision" in having the postal service at the terminal and encouraged forward development that would allow transiting visitors to utilize the room for postage and postcard purchases. He also said the service would assist in "overall development". Like other speakers, Senator Panuelo, chairman of the Congressional Standing Committee on Judiciary and Governmental Operation (J&GO), congratulated the FSMPS for the creative undertaking and touched on some merits of the FSMPS as a specific element in the FSM-US Compact that links FSM to the global world. He also pointed out that FSMPS has been steadily generating increased revenues for the FSM the past few years with half-a-million earned in fiscal year 2012. Senator Panuelo called the FSMPS establishment at the airport "part and parcel" of the FSM's bigger efforts in strengthening financial viability and building its economy. Chief of Staff Edward, who spoke on behalf of President Mori, expressed gratitude to Pohnpei State and the Pohnpei Airport Authority for their willingness to take in the FSMPS substation. He also congratulated the FSMPS staff members for their dedication and creativity, which are vital to maintaining the critical services in spite of immense challenges in the fast-modernizing market world.
