President Visits ChinaPalikir, POHNPEI (FSM Information Services): December 14, 2007 - At the invitation of the Government of the People's Republic of China, President Emanuel Mori departs Pohnpei for China on December 13, 2007. The visit is the President's first official visit to the People's Republic of China and aims to enhance and strengthen the existing good relations between the two countries. On the occasion of the visit, President Mori will meet with His Excellency President HU Jintoa, His Excellence WEN Jiabao and a variety of government officials. On the same occasion, the President will also attend the formal celebration of the opening of the Embassy of the Federated States of Micronesia based in Beijing, China. The ceremony will be held at the Beijing Kerry Center Hotel and testifies to the FSM's growing relations with China. Among others, President Mori's visit will include a visit to Shenzhen City, Zhejiang Province, and Shanghai where he will also meet with government officials. Additionally, the President will tour various sites in China which includes the Yiwu International Commodities Fair Site, the Shanghai Fisheries General Corporation, the China National Aero-Technology Import & Export Corporation, China's wind power facilities corporation, the Haining Solar Technique Project Site, and the newly-constructed Beijing Olympic Stadiums known as the Bird's Nest, and the Water Cube. The President's delegation consists of Mr. Lorin Robert, Secretary of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Kasio Mida, Governor Robert J. Weilbacher and First Lady Josepha A. Weilbacher, Floor Leader Joseph Suka and Mrs. Suka, Senator Fredrico Primo and Mrs. Primo, Senator Dion G. Neth and Mrs. Neth, and Deputy Assistant Secretary Vincent Sivas. President Mori and his delegation will return to the FSM on December 24, 2007. |
